Carers Breaks – Open as Normal
As a Carers support charity we fully understand the pressures of the caring role. Crossroads Care’s respite care service allows the main informal carer to recharge their batteries, and to take time away from their caring responsibilities to relax.
We understand that being a regular Carer for a loved one can make it difficult to arrange some respite for yourself and you may feel apprehensive or even guilty about leaving the person. Crossroads Care provide a high quality alternative care service, affording you the peace of mind to relax and enjoy yourself, knowing that your loved one will continue to receive the care and support they need, how you would want it.
Our carers breaks service, which is primarily funded by Gloucestershire County Council, www.gloucestershire.gov.uk and the Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, provides Carers with FREE respite breaks where carers meet the eligibility criteria. The break can be in the form of:
Day Clubs – Temporarily Closed due to Coronavirus Regulations
Our Azalea day clubs are activity based club for people who have care needs. It gives people the opportunity to have time away from their home whilst also providing the opportunity of a break for the carer, knowing that their loved one is being supported in a safe and caring environment. We have 4 clubs in Prestbury and Hatherley in Cheltenham, Moreton in Marsh, North Cotswolds and Cirencester. They operate weekly from 10am to 3pm. Transport is also available.
Social Outings – Temporarily Closed due to Coronavirus Regulations
Our Out & About service offers a huge range of social activities and outings six days a week. The cared for can be taken out without the carer so that the carer can have a break, alternatively the carer may wish to come along together whilst the cared for is supported by our staff with any particular needs they may have ie: pushing the wheelchair or with feeding – (Out & About Service)
Memory Clubs – Temporarily Closed due to Coronavirus Regulations
Offered once a month in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury where people with memory problems, dementia, friends, families and carers can relax, have fun and share their experiences in a positive environment.
One-to-one Care – Open as Normal
Provided at home. If appropriate, we may take the person who is cared for out into the community whilst the Carer takes a break. This might be to go shopping, to feed the swans or to enjoy one of their favourite leisure pass times. Our Carer Support Workers undertake activities which improve the quality of the cared for person’s life such as:
Outings where appropriate, based on an individual’s choice.
Meal, drink preparation and light domestic duties.
Chatting, reading to the cared for person & playing games.
Personal care such as washing, dressing & toileting and assistance with medication.
All of our staff work to a detailed Care Plan constructed by a Care Manager. This document is regularly updated to ensure a tailored service is provided and a standard of excellence is maintained. We try to ensure that the same Carer Support Worker (CSW) attends each visit so that the family gets to know them and in turn the CSW has a clear understanding of the family’s needs.
Carers Gloucestershire are able to carry out a full carers assessment which is not about your ability to care but about the impact your caring role has on your life and what would make it easier, which may include advice on appropriate benefits and information on other types of services that may be helpful.
You have the right, by law, to an assessment even if the person you are looking after is not having their needs assessed or being re-assessed.
If you would like more information about the carers assessment process, call Carers Gloucestershire on 0300 111 9000.
